My Karate Experience

I walked into Tiger Schulman’s (the training school) not knowing what to expect. On my first day I was really nervous. I saw people who had different belts than me. I asked my mom why that was, she said that the other kids started before me. Now I was really nervous.

When it was time for class I walked on the mat and my sensei (trainer) told me not to worry. He said that I would do well on my first day. Everybody was just standing on the mat doing nothing. Then he told everyone with a Tiger Schulman’s bag to run and put it away.

Everybody went into his or her fighting stance and I tried to imitate everyone else. I had a hard time with it and I started crying. I thought I was going to be kicked out. When class was over my sensei said that I could become better if I practiced more.

Over the next year I trained a lot harder and became better. Then when I was a high blue belt my sensei said that I should compete in the challenge of champions. I agreed and I started training for it. When December came I was ready.

In December I went to my first tournament. I was really nervous. I thought I was going to lose. When the 8th round came I put on my grappling gear and went on to the mat. Luckily I won my first and second round.

When the third round came I lost terribly and took 2nd place. I was really happy. My mom was proud and my sensei was proud.

Now I am currently a brown belt testing for a black belt in October. I have been working very hard so I can achieve it. I hope to get it then.
